Out of the Ashes
I was a barrister in Southampton for over 40 years, until retiring in 2020. I have always sketched faces, birds, animals, flowers, and townscapes in pen and wash, and produced acrylic stencil and monochrome lino prints.
I joined Red Hot Press in about 2016, completing their Foundation and Diploma courses, and began to produce multi-block linocut, woodblock, dry point, and paper litho prints. Some of my printing plates come from salvaged material, such as flooring offcuts and the interior of beer cans
I have exhibited prints in Durham and widely throughout Hampshire, i and have also exhibited and sold prints in the United States
I seek to give the viewer a sense of recognition, revelation, wonder, or surprise by my images. Although I like Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore, I believe that purely abstract images mostly fail to achieve any of these goals.
In the last few months, I went to Northern Canada, sketching and photographing polar bears and other Arctic wildlife.
