Catherine Rogers is a printmaker based in Hampshire influenced by birds in their habitats, local landscapes, and still life. She enjoys watching and drawing the more common and often overlooked birds, such as pigeons and seagulls, which have adapted to living around humans. Most of her prints are therefore bird-related!
“I was initially drawn to the graphic-like image qualities associated with linocut, but after studying foundation and diploma printmaking courses at the Red Hot Press in Southampton, I learnt to explore a range of other techniques. However, relief printing is still my preferred process, although from time to time I do experiment with other techniques, and I also enjoy collage making as an alternative. Collage allows me to understand layering, which relates to printmaking, and it is also an opportunity to reuse any prints that haven’t quite worked! ”
Her printing press lives in the shed at the end of the garden, where Catherine can often be found. You can see her work exhibited regularly throughout Hampshire.
