What got you into printmaking?

I’d worked with fabric, stitch and some printmaking for some time but well and truly got the print bug after an inspirational Tetra Pak dry point course.  I love experimentation, and I find the intaglio processes I work with lend themselves to this approach with endless exciting possibilities.

Where do you work and what equipment do you use?

I work from my home ‘studio’ which is full of all sorts of things – anything that I can create a texture with – packaging, foil, bits of bark, dried leaves, seeds and much more! I started out printmaking with a Sissix craft press which taught me a lot and served me very well until I could justify getting the intaglio press I now have.

What inspires your printmaking?

I tend towards semi abstract images.  I’m inspired by landscapes, particularly chalk downland, coasts and ancient sites – burial barrows, henges, settlements – walking in places that hold history and connections to the land.  Docks, old steelworks, derelict buildings and the atmospheres they hold also inspire me to create.

What do you find most challenging and what do you most love?

Sometimes there are challenges when images don’t translate in the way that I imagined.  But these are temporary, or they help me to see my work differently and move on.

Where may people have seen your work?

I have exhibited in various galleries across Hampshire and Hampshire Open Studios and have had work accepted for the St Barbe Gallery Open Exhibition.
