Etching
Drypoint
Collagraph
I first discovered printmaking on my degree course and loved the endless possibilities of the different techniques. I mainly work with intaglio techniques Etching, Drypoint and Collagraph. The most important thing to me is the image, printmaking is one vehicle to realising that image.
I’m lucky enough to have a studio where I work. This means that I can have different projects on the go at the same time. I can also put work in progress up on the walls to ponder over. I have a general interest in tools and my favourite printmaking tools are my etching and drypoint tools and my lovely etching press.
I’m a big fan of post war British Artists, John Piper, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham for their strong mark-making and bold composition. Another favourite is Prunella Clough for celebrating the overlooked in her work.
My work is rooted in the observation of the man-made world, tools that evoke memories, the beauty of decay and celebrating the resilience of repair.
I most enjoy the beginning, ideas stage. Here anything can happen and it’s the most freeing and creative stage of the process. I try to work quickly to bring energy to this stage, often working with collage techniques to explore colours and find interesting compositions.
I have work in private and public collections in the United Kingdom, Denmark, China, Latvia and Australia. I’m represented by Kevis House Gallery in Petworth, West Sussex. In August 2026 I’ll be opening my studio as part of Hampshire Open Studios.
