Linocut

What got you into printmaking?

I have always been drawn to the bold images that linocut printing produces. A couple of years back, when looking for a new creative hobby, I decided to give linocut a go. I started off with just a basic carving tool and some black ink.

Where do you work and what equipment do you use?

I have a small studio at home where I do all my creative projects. I don’t have a press, just the back of a spoon for burnishing. I have splashed out on a few pfiel carving tools though, and they make a huge difference to the quality and detail I can get in the print.

What inspires your printmaking?

My prints are mostly nature based, featuring landscapes and animals. Various varieties of bird seem to be a common theme in my prints.

What do you find most challenging and what do you most love?

I love that you’re never quite sure how the print will come out until you do that test print. The most challenging thing is when you slightly slip and carve a bit you didn’t want to! Then the real creative thinking starts, of how to work it into the design.

Where may people have seen your work?

I will be exhibiting with Cowprint at the Five Arrows Gallery, Exbury Gardens in June and July 2026.
